Louisville- Virginia postponed due to Cardinals’ virus cases

-

Louisville paused all football activities and its Saturday game at Virginia was postponed at least a week due to a spike in COVID- 19 cases. AD Vince Tyra said the program had 10 players who tested positive for COVID- 19 and five players who were in quarantine because of contact tracing, along with some support staff. Louisville and Virginia both have byes on Nov. 14, allowing the game to be pushed back to that date.

Nine Cardinals, mostly on defense, were held out of last week’s loss to Virginia Tech. Coach Scott Satterfield said afterward that some of the absences were COVID- 19- related. Tyra said the latest testing left Louisville down to three scholarship players on defense.

CALIFORNIA: The season opener Saturday between California and Washington was canceled following a request from the Golden Bears due to a positive coronavirus test for a player. California does not have “the minimum number of scholarship players available for the game,” the Pac- 12 said in a statement.

NAVY: Saturday’s game against Tulsa was postponed following a rash of positive COVID- 19 tests at the Naval Academy. The Midshipmen have halted all football activities. A makeup date has not been announced. Navy and Tulsa do not share a common open date through the rest of the season.

AIR FORCE: The game between Air Force and Army scheduled for Saturday at West Point, New York, was postponed due to an increase in COVID- 19 cases at the Air Force Academy.
