New travel rules: The Trump administra­tion on Wednesday issued new rules to curtail travel to the United States by members of the Chinese Communist Party and their immediate families, a move certain to further exacerbate tensions between the two countries.

Deadly explosion: Four people have died following an explosion at a waste water treatment plant in southwest England, police said Thursday. A fififth person was injured, but his condition is not thought to be life- threatenin­g. Police said the incident was not terrorism- related but would not speculate on the cause of the blast.

Winds raise fifire danger: A dangerous Santa Ana wind event whipped across Southern California at speeds of up to 85 mph Thursday. With strong winds forecast throughout the day, fifire danger remains “critical” to “extremely critical.” The Bond Fire in Orange County had spread to more than 3,500 acres, while other fifires burned in Riverside County, requiring evacuation­s.

Moon samples taken:

China says its latest lunar probe has fifinished taking samples of the moon’s surface and sealed them within the spacecraft for return to Earth. The Chang’e 5 touched down Tuesday on the Sea of Storms on a mission to return lunar rocks to Earth for the fifirst time since 1976. The timing offff its return was not immediatel­y clear.

Rapper charged: The rapper G Herbo, his promoter and others have been charged in a scheme to use stolen credit card informatio­n to pay for trips on private jets, car and vacation rentals, and designer puppies. G Herbo’s promoter Antonio Strong and several associates also were charged in federal court in Massachuse­tts with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and identity theft.
