Tennessee hires UCF’S White as AD days after Fulmer’s retirement

-

Tennessee has hired UCF athletic director Danny White as its AD just three days after the firing of football coach Jeremy Pruitt and athletic director Phillip Fulmer’s retirement.

Chancellor Donde Plowman announced the hiring Thursday, noting Tennessee handled this search with urgency but did not provide details on White’s contract. White signed a fiveyear contract at UCF in March 2020 paying him more than $1 million a year with a $2.5 million buyout if he left for another school before May 11. It is unclear how the buyout is being paid.

The Vols have seen a steady stream of players enter the NCAA transfer portal since Pruitt’s firing. Linebackers Henry To’o To’o and Quavaris Crouch, running back Eric Gray and offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson entered the portal Wednesday, all within a 27-minute span.
