- CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM FOR THE AJC

Code amendments will be considered soon by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, including two public hearings.

The 132-page document may be viewed at bit.ly/3o4itmo.

Among the upcoming public meetings are:

Board of Commissioners work session: 1:30 p.m.monday

■ Board of Commissioners public hearing dates: 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Feb. 9

At the request of Commission Chair Lisa Cupid, the design guidelines for Austell Road would be mandated as requirements instead of guides as they are now.

The Cobb Planning Commission is requesting staff revise the ordinance so that not all of the Austell Road guidelines will become requirements.

After March 1, redevelopment overlays would end since only one request has been made since its implementation about a decade ago. However, the Planning Commission is requesting the commissioners keep this category with adjustments.

Most of the code changes concern signs — those that are prohibited and allowed.

Banned would be pennants and streamers and signs on trees, utility poles, rocks or other natural features.

Banners only would be allowed on a temporary basis.
