PRO FOOTBALL: The Detroit Lions hired Aaron Glenn to be their defensive coordinato­r. Glenn joins new coach Dan Campbell’s staff after spending the past five seasons as the secondary coach for the New Orleans Saints. Glenn was a three-time Pro Bowler as a player and played in 205 games in 15 years for the Jets, Texans, Cowboys, Jaguars and Saints.

PRO FOOTBALL: Tight end Greg Olsen is ending his 14-year career to join Fox as a game analyst. The first tight end with three consecutiv­e 1,000-yard seasons, Olsen, 35, spent his first four seasons with the Bears before being traded to Carolina, where in nine seasons he made three Pro Bowls, one Super Bowl, and had 524 catches for 6,463 yards and 39 touchdowns. Olsen spent his final season in Seattle.

TRACK AND FIELD: Olympic champ Ryan Crouser broke the world indoor shot put record at an American Track League meet in Fayettevil­le, Ark., tossing 22.82 meters (74 feet, 10½ inches) to best the 22.66 (74-4¼) set by Randy Barnes on Jan. 20, 1989.

PRO HOCKEY:

Hall of Famer George Armstrong, who captained the Toronto Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cups in the 1960s and remains the franchise’s leader in games played, has died of heart complicati­ons. He was 90. Armstrong had 296 goals and 417 assists over 21 seasons for the Leafs, including 12 seasons as team captain.

AUTO RACING: Frenchman Sebastien Ogier won the seasonopen­ing Monte Carlo Rally for a record eighth time Sunday in Monaco, breaking the previous best mark he shared with countryman Sebastien Loeb. It was the seven-time world champion Ogier’s 50th career win in what will be his final full season. The Toyota Yaris driver beat team rival Elfyn Evans by 32.6 seconds with Belgian driver Thierry Neuville 1:13.5 behind Ogier in third place.
