1 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Creighton lifted coach Greg Mcdermott’s suspension for making racially insensitiv­e remarks to players after a game last week. Mcdermott created a firestorm for using the term “plantation” as part of an analogy urging team unity. The university suspended him last Thursday.

2 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Iowa’s Luka Garza is Associated Press player of the year in the Big Ten Conference for the second year in a row and Michigan’s Juwan Howard is coach of the year. Garza won a split vote with Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu after being a unanimous pick in 2020. Also on first team are Minnesota’s Marcus Carr, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-davis and Ohio State’s E.J. Liddell.

3 SOCCER:

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann was dropped from the U.S. training camp roster for Olympic qualifying after suffering a concussion. He was replaced by Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender. The U.S. opens Group A vs. Costa Rica on March 18.

PRO BASEBALL: 4

New York Yankees left-hander Zack Britton needs surgery to remove a bone chip from his pitching elbow and seems certain to miss the start of the season. Britton, a two-time All-star, was 1-2 with a 1.89 ERA and eight saves in 20 appearance­s during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He filled in as closer when Aroldis Chapman was recovering from COVID-19.

5 SOCCER:

Germany coach Joachim Löw will step down after this year’s European Championsh­ip, bringing forward his previous plan to quit after the next World Cup. The German soccer federation said Tuesday that Löw asked to terminate his contract, which was to run through the 2022 World Cup, after this year’s European tournament.
