1 Wisconsin protest charges: Fifty-five people are facing charges related to violent demonstrat­ions in Kenosha, Wisconsin, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake last summer, police said Friday. The new tally did not include Kyle Rittenhous­e of Antioch, Illinois, who faces multiple charges in the shootings of three protesters, two fatally, Aug. 25. Blake filed a lawsuit this week accusing Kenosha police Officer Rusten Sheskey of using excessive force.

2 Tennessee ex-senator dies: Former Tennessee Sen. Bill Brock, whose long career in Washington included a key role in rebuilding the Republican Party after the Watergate scandal, died Thursday. Brock gained prominence in 1970 when he defeated veteran Democratic Sen. Albert Gore Sr., the father of the future vice president. Later, as chairman of the RNC, Brock was credited with broadening the party’s appeal by wooing Blacks, women and labor.

3 Myanmar death toll: The toll of protesters confirmed killed in Myanmar since last month’s military takeover has reached 320, a group that verifies details of deaths and arrests announced Friday. Myanmar’s Assistance Associatio­n for Political Prisoners said its tally includes only documented cases.

4 Charges in N.M. deaths: Sean Lannon, accused in the beating death of a New Jersey resident he claimed sexually abused him as a child, was charged Friday with killing his ex-wife and two others in New Mexico in what investigat­ors call a complicate­d case spanning multiple states.

5 Romney honored for vote: U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney was named the recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award on Friday for splitting with his party and becoming the only Republican to vote to convict former President Donald Trump during his first impeachmen­t trial.
