Wing and burger spot in Polk fails health check

A Polk County restaurant specializing in wings, burgers and other fast-casual fare failed a recent health inspection. Jefferson’s of Rockmart on Cartersville Highway scored 58/U on March 23. Previous scores were 82/B on Sept. 30 and 100/A on July 2.

According to the report, the cook breaded raw chicken tenders and placed them in the fryer, changed his gloves, and then handled toasted bread for a Philly cheesesteak sandwich without washing his hands between moving from raw to ready-to-eat food. Other violations:

A thawed raw steak was stored on the top shelf of the grill cooler, over sautéed mushrooms and directly touching precooked barbecue pork.

There was no measurable sanitizer in the dish machine. The facility did not have chlorine test strips for the dish machine.

The ice machine flap and upper cabinet and microwave interior were not clean.

Wet plastic drink cups were stacked next to the drink machine and at the bar.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
