-

UCLA (21-9) scored the first five points of overtime late Sunday in Indianapolis and cruised from there to an 88-78 victory over Alabama (26-7) that gave the Bruins their first trip to the Elite Eight since 2008 — and coach Mick Cronin the first of his 18-year coaching career. Next up for the Bruins is top-seeded Michigan tonight for a spot in the Final Four. In other late Sunday games:

No. 6 men’s seed USC 82, No. 7 Oregon 68: Isaiah White scored 22 points, and the Trojans (25-7) shut down Oregon’s offense to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in 20 years. Offensively, the Trojans shot 57% and 10 of 17 from 3-point range. Next up is a shot at undefeated Gonzaga in the regional final today. Eugene Omoruyi had 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Chris Duarte scored 21 for the Ducks (21-7).

No. 2 women’s seed Louisville 60, No. 6 Oregon 42: In San Antonio, Dana Evans broke out of a shooting slump in a big way. The senior All-american guard matched a career high with 29 points as the Cardinals advanced to the regional final for a third straight time. The Cardinals will face top seed Stanford tonight.

Louisville (26-3) continued its stellar defensive play, holding Oregon (15-9) to 14 points in the first half.

No. 6 women’s seed Texas 64, No. 2 Maryland 61: Texas is rolling into the Elite Eight as the lowest seed still alive. Charli Collier had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Longhorns used a grinding, hustling defensive effort to shut down the nation’s highest-scoring offense, that of Maryland (26-3). Texas (21-9) advances to today’s regional final against No. 1 South Carolina, which beat Georgia Tech on Sunday.
