TIGERS 3, Cleveland 2: Miguel Cabrera homered through the snow in his first at-bat of the season, then added a sparkling play at first base to lift Detroit to a 3-2 victory over Cleveland on Thursday.

Blue Jays 3, YANKEES 2 (10): Randal Grichuk led off the 10th with an RBI double, and the Blue Jays took advantage of the second year of starting extra innings with a runner on second to beat the Yankees 3-2 Thursday in the major league opener.

Pirates 5, CUBS 3: Ke’bryan Hayes hit a two-run homer and Pittsburgh’s relievers dominated in a two-hitter, helping the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 Thursday on a chilly opening day.

BREWERS 6, Twins 5 (10): Lorenzo Cain scored the winning run in the 10th after Travis Shaw sparked a ninthinnin­g comeback and the Brewers beat the Twins 6-5 on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.

PHILLIES 3, Braves 2 (10): Jean Segura hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Philadelph­ia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in their season opener Thursday.

Rays 1, MARLINS 0: Austin Meadows’ home run with two outs in the eighth inning was all the Tampa Bay Rays needed, and the reigning AL champions started their season with a 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

PADRES 8, D-backs 7: Eric Hosmer had a homer among his three hits and drove in three runs as the Padres defeated Arizona 8-7 on Thursday. Arizona’s Ketel Marte had four hits, including one of Arizona’s four home runs in a wild six-run fifth inning.

ROCKIES 8, Dodgers 5: On an afternoon Cody Bellinger had a homer negated due to a baserunnin­g mistake, the Rockies played plenty of small ball to beat the Dodgers 8-5 Thursday in their season opener.

Cardinals 11, REDS 6: Paul Goldschmid­t and newcomer Nolan Arenado combined for six hits in a boosted St. Louis lineup, and the Cardinals roughed up the Reds 11-6 on Thursday night.

Rangers at ROYALS, late: The Royals went 15-15 in home games in 2020. Kansas City hit 68 total home runs with 2.9 extra base hits per game last season. The Rangers finished 6-24 in road games in 2020.

White Sox at ANGELS, late: The Angels went 16-15 on their home field in 2020. Los Angeles averaged 8.4 hits with 3.2 extra base hits per game and 97 total doubles last season. The White Sox finished 17-13 in road games in 2020.

Astros at ATHLETICS, late: The Athletics went 26-14 in division games in 2020. Oakland pitchers had an ERA of 3.77 last season while striking out 8.4 hitters per game. The Astros finished 19-21 against AL West Division opponents in 2020.

Giants at MARINERS, late: The Mariners went 14-10 in home games in 2020. Seattle pitchers had a WHIP of 1.38 last year while striking out 7.8 hitters per game. The Giants went 10-17 on the road in 2020.

Orioles at RED SOX, postponed: The Red Sox postponed their opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on Thursday because of rain that was forecast to last all day.

Mets at NATIONALS, postponed: The Mets-nationals opener was postponed because of coronaviru­s concerns.
