Buyer’s Edge

Where can I find it?

- By Sabine Morrow For the AJC

Q: I live in Albany but am an AJC online daily reader. I love your column! I really am looking for these repairs in the Atlanta area as we come there fairly regularly. I need help with two things. I would like to have some pieces of crystal stemware repaired that have slight chips on the rims. I don’t know if anyone does that anymore. My second request is to have some original land grant documents restored. I believe they are on parchment instead of paper. They are over 170 years old from my husband’s family farm. I appreciate any help that you can give me. Thank you. — Kathy Wooten, email

A: Kathy, thank you so much for reading. I can help you with both of those requests. For the glass repair, I suggest contacting Mary Brightwell, 678-371-5828, a local glass artist who admits that her craft is dying out. She works out of her home studio in Woodstock and has repaired crystal for Elton John and the Georgia Governor’s Mansion as well as specialty shops and department stores. She was even selected as the official duster for the “Chihuly in the Garden”

exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. To see examples of her work, check out crystalrepairbymary. com. To restore your documents, consider Avery Gallery, 390 Roswell St., Marietta, 770-427-2459. The gallery employs a paper conservator who can look at your parchment and assess what needs to be done. This local art restoration company has been in business for nearly four decades. Avery’s conservators restore and clean various artworks, including lithographs, oil, engravings, watercolors and mixed media. Take a look at the website, averygallery.com, for more information.

Q: When we were teens, my sister and I loved Lemon Up shampoo. The fresh scent was out of this world. I haven’t seen it in years. Is there any chance that a good substitute is available? — Deb Jackson, email

A: Deb, thanks to The Vermont Country Store, 800547-7849, vermontcountrystore.com, Lemon Up shampoo and conditioner, favorites from the ’70s, are back. Lemon Up comes in a 13.5ounce bottle and sells for $14.95.

Q: Please help me find a toilet brush with a plunger in the same holder. Thank you. — M. Baker, email

A: You’ll find an HDX storage caddy that holds a Microban-treated brush and plunger for $12.97 at Home Depot, 2525 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 404-841-5608.
