New Mexico legalizes pot: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed legislatio­n Monday legalizing recreation­al marijuana use within months and kicking off sales next year, making it the seventh state since November to put an end to pot prohibitio­n.

Ecuador turns to the right: Guillermo Lasso, a 66-year-old conservati­ve former banker, was set to win Ecuador’s presidenti­al election and beat out Andrés Arauz, a 36-year-old leftist handpicked by former President Rafael Correa. With more than 94% of the votes counted after 10 p.m., Lasso had 52% compared with Arauz’s 47.32%, according to the Electoral Council official counting system in Ecuador.

Election runoff in Peru: Peru is heading to a presidenti­al runoff in June after early results showed no candidate getting anywhere close to the threshold needed to win outright. Pedro Castillo, a community organizer and union leader, was leading the race with 18.1% of the votes, followed by three other candidates who each received over 10% of the vote.

Weinstein extraditio­n possible: Former film producer Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on 11 counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles County and could be extradited here to answer those charges after a hearing in upstate New York on Monday, according to four people with direct knowledge of the situation.

5 Slain children identified:

Authoritie­s have identified the three children slain in Los Angeles over the weekend. The autopsies of 3-year-old Joanna Denton Carrillo; her 2-year-old brother, Terry; and 6-month-old sister, Sierra, were pending, coroner’s records said. Their mother, Liliana Carillo, is the suspect in their deaths and was being held in a central California jail on Monday.
