1 OLYMPICS: Mike Tirico won’t be anchoring NBC’S prime-time coverage of the Tokyo Olympics from the usual confines of a studio inside the International Broadcast Center. Instead, he will have a more picturesque location. NBC announced Tuesday that Tirico will host from an outdoor location in downtown Tokyo. The set will be on a fifth-floor deck with a panoramic view of the city skyline. It marks the first time in NBC’S 16 Olympics broadcasts that the prime-time show will be outdoors.
2 BASEBALL: Major League Baseball reached into professional wrestling, hiring Brian Stedman as executive vice president of strategy and development. Stedman will head a new department tasked with working with MLB departments, teams and partners to create a strategic vision in marketing, media, ticketing and international.
3 CYCLING: Tour de France champions and former teammates Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas will race against each other in the mountains of Switzerland this month. Tour de Romandie organizers published starting lineups Tuesday for the April 27-May 2 event, a key prelude for the main stage races.
4 PRO BASKETBALL: Bobby “Slick” Leonard was selected as the ABA’S greatest coach. Hall of Fame player George Mcginnis considered him a genius. On Tuesday, the Indiana Pacers announced that the man who led them to three ABA championships during a Hall of Fame coaching career and was selected a 1963 NBA All-star had died. The 88-year-old Leonard had been in failing health in recent years.
5 TENNIS: Second-ranked Daniil Medvedev withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday following a positive COVID-19 test. The ATP said Medvedev has been placed in isolation.
