1 U.K. leader gambles on tax hike to pay for elder care: U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Tuesday how he plans to grapple with the rocketing cost of long-term care for Britain’s growing older population. Johnson told lawmakers in the House of Commons that his Conservati­ve government had made the “difficult but responsibl­e” decision to increase taxes in order to raise 36 billion pounds ($50 billion) over three years for social care and the National Health Service.

4 London honors Muppets creator Jim Henson: The American creator of The Muppets was honored Tuesday in Britain with a plaque at his former home in north London. Its simple message: “Jim Henson 1936-1990 creator of The Muppets lived here.” Henson lived in London from 1979 until his death in 1990 at just 53.

5 3rd death reported following dose of Moderna vaccine: A third person in Japan has died after receiving the Moderna vaccine from a batch subject to a recall because it was manufactur­ed at the same time as one in which foreign substances were detected in the vials, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry announced Monday.
