Dallas OT La’el Collins banned 5 games over substance-abuse issue

-

Dallas Cowboys right tackle La’el Collins was suspended five games Friday for violating the NFL’S substance-abuse policy. The suspension came a day after Collins played his first game since 2019 in the Cowboys’ loss to Tampa Bay. Collins missed all of 2020 because of a hip issue that required surgery.

Collins won’t be eligible until Week 8. That means the Cowboys will go at least 22 straight games without their top three linemen playing together.

RAVENS: Put RB Gus Edwards and CB Marcus Peters on injured reserve with season-ending knee injuries. RB Latavius Murray was added to the roster, and RBS Devonta Freeman and Le’veon Bell were added to the practice squad.

TITANS: Added K Sam Ficken to the injury report Friday with a right groin muscle problem and signed K Michael Badgley to the practice squad.

WFT: Put WR Curtis Samuel on shortterm injured reserve because of a groin injury. He will miss at least three games.

JETS: WR Jamison Crowder will miss the season opener at Carolina while he continues to recover from COVID-19.

GIANTS: Indicated RB Saquon Barkley is going to play against the Broncos on Sunday, roughly a year after tearing his right ACL. He will need final approval from the team’s medical staff.

COLTS: Cleared QB Carson Wentz to play and said he is expected to start Sunday.

BROWNS: Odell Beckham Jr.’s playing status for Sunday’s opener at Kansas City remains up in the air as he recovers from knee surgery. Jadeveon Clowney was declared ready to make his debut with the team after missing time with an injury.

CHIEFS: Tyrann Mathieu remained in the COVID-19 protocol Friday, making it uncertain whether their All-pro safety will be cleared to play the Browns.
