Delta Community Credit Union invests in N. Georgia nonprofits
The Delta Community Credit Union Philanthropic Fund invests in a wide array of nonprofits each year, focusing on those that offer financial literacy training, education and health and human services. Meals by Grace was recently awarded a $10,000 grant to continue its campaign to end food insecurity in North Georgia.
“Food insecurity — that deep emotional concern over where your next meal will come from — is especially acute and dangerous in children,”said Suellen Daniels, executive director of Meals by Grace. “Food insecure children may even exhibit symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder that can last a lifetime.”
The grant will help Meals by Grace home deliver nutritious meals to improve the physical well-being of young people and families who face food insecurity due to joblessness or other challenges, especially considering the economic toll that the coronavirus pandemic has taken.
Throughout 2021, Delta Community’s Philanthropic Fund will invest a total of $125,000 in 20 nonprofits in metro Atlanta.
In addition to the grants, Delta Community pivoted its community investment strategy to focus on small businesses and nonprofits hit especially hard by current events.
“Funds we had previously budgeted for event spon- sorships were redirected to emergency relief efforts, small business sustainability, financial wellness work- shops and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives,” said Jai Rogers, Delta Community’s vice president of business and community development.
