Road closes as firefighters squelch two fires on rooftop
A fire Wednesday morning at a vacant commercial building, according to authorities, temporarily closed a southwest Atlanta road as firefighters battled the flames. When Atlanta fire crews responded to the 800 block of Conley Road around 8 a.m., they quickly put out two fires on the roof, Battalion Chief Arzell Bostick said. Fire crews remained until around 9:30 a.m., when all lanes of Conley Road reopened to traffic.
A fire on the roof of what authorities said is a vacant commercial building temporarily closed a southwest Atlanta road Wednesday morning as firefighters battled the flames.
When Atlanta fire crews responded to the 800 block of Conley Road around 8 a.m., they found two fires on the roof that were quickly put out, Battalion Chief Arzell Bostick said. No fire was found inside the structure, he added.
Authorities are unsure how the fire was confined only to the roof and will be investigating its cause. From the scene Wednesday, Bostick told The Atlanta Journal-constitution there have been unconfirmed reports of other fires at the same building. Though he said the fire department would look into those reports, he did not provide any other details.
No one was injured, as the building is vacant and under construction, spokeswoman Alyssa Richardson said.
The building previously housed several small businesses. Though authorities said it is vacant, several banners that appeared to be relatively new outside the building advertised a gentlemen’s club.
