The Atlanta Braves are partnering with Cobb County to help build a tribute to military veterans.

The Atlanta Braves Foundation recently donated $50,000 to the Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation.

Braves Foundation President Mike Plant handed leading members of Cobb’s veterans foundation a $50,000 check during a Sept. 14 pregame ceremony at Truist Park.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners commissioned the Veterans Memorial Foundation in 2015. The organization plans to build the Veterans Memorial as the first public shrine to Cobb’s 60,000 military servicemen and women.

The donation from the Braves will help fund construction of the $1.5 million park that will be located next to the Cobb Civic Center and Aquatics Center in Marietta at 502 Fairground Street.

“We are proud to partner with the Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation to aid the construction of a lasting memorial to thank and honor our Armed Forces,” Atlanta Braves Foundation Executive Director Danielle Bedasse said in a statement.

The memorial in Cobb County will feature granite walls documenting the history of each service branch, a 14 story- illuminated flag and star, and a wall commemorating individual veterans with photos and letters.

“Thanks to the generosity and support of the Braves, the Cobb Community is one step closer to honoring the men and women who served our nation in the military and their families for the sacrifices they have made over our long history to keep us a free and safe country,” Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation President Donna Rowe said. “The Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation will be ever grateful for the Braves and all they do to make our County the best place to live for our over 60,000 veterans and their families.”
