Puttshack to open as part of new $2B project

A miniature golf entertainment company is the first tenant announced for a large mixed-use development in the Perimeter area.

Puttshack, which bills itself as an “upscale, tech-infused mini golf experience,” plans to open in 2023 as part of High Street, a $2 billion project poised to change the landscape of Dunwoody. Puttshack’s first location in west Midtown has been a huge hit, according to a news release, so the company is expanding its footprint in metro Atlanta.

“Our first ever location in the U.S., Puttshack Atlanta, continues to exceed all expec- tations,” Joe Vrankin, CEO of Puttshack, said in the release. “We’re excited to bring Puttshack to another vibrant Atlanta neighbor- hood as soon as possible.”

This isn’t ordinary mini golf. The golf balls feature tracking devices, so there’s no need to keep score by hand. It also allows patrons to play a variety of differ

ent game modes. Puttshack will lease more than 26,000 square feet at High Street for its mini golf courses, and the location will also feature a craft menu and full cocktail bar.

The idea for High Street, located at the intersection of Perimeter Center Park- way and Hammond Drive, has been in the works since before Dunwoody became a city in 2008. The massive project developed and owned by GID Development Group will span 36 acres and take

up roughly 10 city blocks.

The first phase of the proj- ect will break ground this year and will include 150,000 square feet of entertainment-driven retail and restau- rants, roughly 600 luxury rental apartments, 90,000 square feet of loft office space and 222,000 square feet of existing office space.

The Atlanta Journal-constitution’s former headquar- ters and a previous corporate office building for Macy’s are also poised for redevelop- ment as part of the project.

Located near the Dunwoody MARTA station and with access to Ga. 400 and I-285, the developer said it’ll be easy for patrons and future residents to go to and from the site. Jim Linsley, president of GID, added that the area will have an open-container policy and will focus on entertainment, which is why Puttshack was chosen as an anchor tenant.

“Puttshack at High Street is delivering on that vision and will bring our community the types of new and exciting experiences they crave, all while being seamlessly integrated within the proj- ect’s energetic and vibrant mixed-use environment,” Linsley said in the release.

Puttshack’s first locations opened in London before the company brought the high- tech concept to the U.S. this year. It opened the Atlanta location in April 2021 as part of The Interlock, a mixed-use development off Howell Mill Road and 14th Street. The company has also announced future locations in Boston, Chicago, Miami, Nashville and Scottsdale, Arizona.
