1 Catalan leader released: Catalan separatist leader Carle Puigdemont left a jail in Sardinia on Friday after a judge ruled that he could go free pending an Oct. 4 hearing on his extraditio­n to Spain, where Puigdemont is wanted for sedition. Puigdemont, the former president of Spain’s Catalonia region and a member of the European Union parliament, left the jail in Sassari a day after he had been detained by police.

2 COVID-19 disrupts “View” interview: A live televised interview with Vice President Kamala Harris was delayed on Friday after two hosts of “The View” learned they tested positive for COVID-19 moments before they were to interview her. Cohost Sunny Hostin and guest host Ana Navarro both learned they tested positive for breakthrou­gh cases ahead of the interview. Both Navarro and Hostin were at the table for the start of the show, but then were pulled from the set.

3 U.K. airport delays: Travelers arriving at U.K. airports faced delays Friday after electronic passport gates failed, forcing passengers to wait in line for border officers to inspect their documents. London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh airports all reported that a technology failure disrupted gates.

4 Climate rally in Germany: Tens of thousands of environmen­tal activists staged a rally outside Germany’s parliament Friday, two days before the country holds a national election, to demand that politician­s take stronger action to curb climate change.

5 Convicted of stealing art: A three-judge panel in the Netherland­s on Friday found a man guilty of stealing paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals from museums in separate thefts and sentenced him to eight years in prison and a hefty fine. The ruling did not name the 59-yearold man, from Baarn, who has been previously identified only as Nils M.
