Buyer’s Edge Where Can I Find It?
Q: I have over 150 old books, with some sets that date to the Civil War and the early 20th century. Most have been in the family that long. I was hoping to locate an appraiser who will come to my home or one in the Atlanta area so that I can describe what books I have. The second part of this request is to see if there is a place I can donate books to that will preserve them. Thank you. — T. Pat Cavanaugh, Conyers
A: I’m going to send you to one place for both of your requests. Contact Atlanta Vintage Books, 3660 Clairmont
Road, Atlanta, 770-457-2919, and describe your collections. This bookstore has served the community for more than three decades, and the staff boasts more than 50 years of combined appraisal experience. They are members of the Georgia Antiquarian Booksellers Association and the American Booksellers Association.
Q: I know it’s early in the season, but I’m trying to get a head start on finding pickled peaches. My family loves them in the fall and for all of our holiday meals. I used to buy Margaret Holmes Sunshine brand, but I know they haven’t been available for several years. Is there another brand that is readily available now? Thank you. — Ev Davis, email
A: Ev, you won’t have to get a jump on those pickled peaches because David’s Produce and Country Store, 3561 Lavista Road, Decatur, 404-3250709, stocks Hillside Orchard Farms pickled peaches from the Georgia mountains in quart jars for $10.99 each. You can find them at David’s pretty much year-round.
Q: I can’t find Solo pastry filling in apricot and raspberry anywhere. A couple of years ago, you suggested Ingles in Auburn. I returned there and to other Ingles along the way and was told they no longer carry it. —Cathy Wludyga, email
A: Cathy, you’ll find several flavors of Solo cake and pastry filling, including poppy seed and apricot, at Buford Highway Farmers Market, 5600 Buford Highway, Doraville, 770-4550770. The 12-ounce cans sell for $3.29, and they’re located on Aisle 9.
