Henry County soul food eatery fails health check

A Henry County restaurant specializing in soul food failed a recent health inspection. Shirley’s Chicken N Waffle Soul Food Bar in Stockbridge scored 62/U on Sept. 24. Previous scores were 82/B on Dec. 10 and 87/B on Nov. 25.

According to the report, there was no soap, paper towels or trash can at the hand washing sink near the cashier/register.

Other violations:

The ice machine had mold spots inside.

Raw fish, shrimp and precooked chicken were cold stored at temperatures above 41 degrees.

Rice in the warmer cabinet as well as rib tips and oxtails on the steam table were holding at temperature below 135 degrees.

Raw foods stored in the walk-in cooler did not have a date of preparation or date of disposal.

Macaroni and cheese was cooling in a large plastic container that did not adequately distribute heat in order to cool foods to the temperature required.

Wiping cloths were stored inside soiled water and sanitizing solution not at the appropriate strength.

There was a heavy accumulation of roaches inside the kitchen.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
