1 OBITUARY: Lamarr Hoyt, who won the 1983 AL Cy Young Award with the Chicago White Sox, has died. He was 66. The White Sox announced his death Wednesday. The team said he died Monday in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, following a lengthy illness. Hoyt went 98-68 with a 3.99 ERA in eight years in the majors. He also had 48 career complete games, including eight shutouts, and 10 saves. The 6-foot-3 right-hander was the 1985 All-star Game MVP.

2 PRO BASKETBALL: Phoenix Suns’ All-star guard Devin Booker injured his left hamstring Tuesday night and did not return to the game against the Golden State Warriors. The 25-year-old Booker has appeared in every game this season, averaging nearly 24 points per game.

3 PRO SOCCER: Sean Johnson saved Adam Buksa’s attempt during a shootout and all five of Johnson’s teammates scored as New York City FC advanced to its first Eastern Conference final 5-3 on penalty kicks following a 2-2 playoff draw with the New England Revolution on Tuesday night. NYC will play the Philadelph­ia Union on Sunday for a spot in the MLS Cup.

4 COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Zed Key scored a career-high 20 points and Ohio State (5-2) held No. 1 Duke scoreless for the final 4½ minutes, completing a rally from a 15-point second-half deficit to beat the Blue Devils 71-66 on Tuesday night. Duke (7-1) just claimed the AP top spot this week.

5PRO TENNIS: British player Johanna Konta announced her retirement Wednesday, saying: “I just ran out of steam.”the 30-year-old Konta reached a high in the rankings of No. 4 and was a four-time title winner on the WTA. She became the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in 39 years when she got to that stage in 2017.
