Couple arrested after fight over Splenda

-

A metro Atlanta couple were arrested Tuesday after authorities accused them of attacking a Mcdonald’s employee during a fight over a packet of Splenda.

Marshall Wallace and Crystal Wallace are facing multiple charges in the Nov. 23 encounter at a restaurant in Locust Grove. They were identified from a cellphone video captured by an onlooker and posted to a popular content aggregation account on Twitter.

According to the Henry County Sheriff ’s Office, the fight started outside the Bill Gardner Parkway Mcdonald’s when the Wallaces were told they would have to come inside to get the sugar substitute. The video shows the pair sitting in a white car and arguing with an employee standing at the drive-thru window.

The fight escalated when Crystal Wallace threw a drink at the employee, the sheriff ’s office said. In the video, it appears the employee retaliated with her own thrown drink.

Marshall Wallace can then be seen standing outside the car and punching the closed window multiple times.

“You want me to get mad?” he shouts in the video. “I’ll get mad (expletive). I’ll come in that (expletive).”

At some point, Marshall Wallace climbed through the drive-thru window and hit a manager in the leg with a chair, the sheriff ’s office said.

“The video clearly shows actions that blatantly violated the law and brought national embarrassment to the people of our great county,” Henry Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said in a news release. “This type of behavior will not be tolerated.”

The man and woman were arrested in Walton County during a traffic stop, officials said. They were both taken to the Henry County Jail, where they are being held on charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Marshall Wallace also faces a count of simple battery, and Crystal Wallace is charged with simple assault.
