1 man who opened fire on a Poway, Calif., synagogue in a deadly 2019 antisemiti­c attack was sentenced in federal court to life in prison, plus 30 years. The sentence for John T. Earnest, 22, adds to the life term he received three months earlier in state court.

Myanmar: The United Nations called for an investigat­ion following reports that at least 35 people were killed in a massacre by Myanmar’s military on Friday. Two workers for Save the Children, a humanitari­an organizati­on, were among those killed, the organizati­on said. Photos of the charred remains of victims in torched vehicles circulated in Myanmar, where activists say more than 1,300 people have died amid unrest since the military seized power on Feb. 1.

Police seek hit-and-run driver: 4

Authoritie­s have found the car that plowed into a group of children, killing two and injuring four in Wilton Manors, Fla., but detectives are still searching for the man who was driving and fled the scene. The Broward Sheriff ’s Office said two girls died at the scene Monday. Officials say the man tried to pass a bus , cut in front of the bus and veered off the roadway into a sidewalk and driveway, hitting the children, the sheriff ’s office said.

The Powerball jackpot hit an estimated $441 million, its thirdhighe­st number this year. The jackpot, if it’s won today, could be eligible for a $317.5 million lumpsum cash-out. The most recent jackpot hit was Oct. 4: $699.8 million in Morro Bay, Calif.
