Legislature weighs impeachment:
South Dakota lawmakers on Wednesday subpoenaed law enforcement officials and documents as they weigh whether the state attorney general should be impeached for his conduct in a fatal car crash. Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg pleaded no contest in August to misdemeanors in the crash that killed Joseph Boever. Ravnsborg reported it as a collision with an animal. He claims he didn’t know he killed a man until he returned to the scene the next day.
Ex-president says he had to leave quickly:
Former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani said he had no choice but to abruptly leave Kabul as the Taliban closed in and denied an agreement was in the works for a peaceful takeover. Ghani said in a BBC interview that an adviser gave him just minutes to decide to abandon Kabul. He also denied accusations that he left with millions in stolen money.
Editors charged with sedition:
Two former editors from a Hong Kong online pro-democracy news outlet were charged with sedition and denied bail Thursday, a day after one of the last openly critical voices in the city said it would cease operations following a police raid on its office and seven arrests.
Drug manufacturer liable:
Drugmaker Teva Pharmaceuticals is responsible for contributing to the opioid crisis, a suburban New York jury ruled Thursday in one of few verdicts so far among thousands of lawsuits nationwide concerning the painkillers. A separate trial will follow to determine what Teva will have to pay in the case.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s marriage is officially over more than 10 years after Shriver petitioned to end her then-25year marriage to the action star and former California governor.
