1 COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Norchad Omier scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Arkansas State beat Georgia Southern 74-56 on Saturday in the Red Wolves’ Sun Belt Conference opener. Georgia Southern was held to a seasonlow 22 first-half points.

2 HORSE RACING: Billy Turner, who trained Seattle Slew to a Triple Crown sweep of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont stakes in 1977, has died. He was 81. Turner died Friday at his home in Reddick, Fla., where he had been in hospice care after battling prostate cancer for two years, according to a statement from his wife, Pat.

3 PRO BASKETBALL: Another G League referee was called up by the NBA to work a game on Saturday on a day where the number of players on the list dropped considerab­ly. Sha’rae Mitchell was assigned the San Antonio-detroit game. She becomes the fourth G League referee called up in a span of two days — three others worked games on Friday — and is now the 15th woman in league history picked to work a regular-season game.

4 OLYMPICS: Hilary Knight was selected for a USA Hockey recordtyin­g fourth Olympics, one of 15 players with prior Winter Games experience on the U.S. women’s national team seeking to defend its gold medal in Beijing next month.

BASEBALL: Former Miami Marlins 5 infielder Eddy Alvarez announced Saturday that he is signing with the Dodgers. Alvarez signed a minor league contract. Alvarez made his big league debut in 2020 and has played 36 games in the majors, batting .188 with one home run and eight RBIS. Alvarez is perhaps best known, however, for his accomplish­ments in the Olympics. In 2014, he won a silver medal in the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in speedskati­ng.
