AUTO RACING: Charles Leclerc topped both of Friday’s practice sessions at the Monaco Grand Prix, where the Ferrari driver could use a victory on his home track to return to the top of the Formula One standings. Ferrrari had a solid close to the day as Carlos Sainz Jr. was second-fastest behind teammate Leclerc. Red Bull was right behind as Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen were third- and fourth-fastest but lacked the onelap speed of Ferrari.

AUTO RACING: Pato O’ward

2 signed a contract extension two days before the Indianapol­is 500 that makes him the centerpiec­e of Arrow Mclaren SP in Indycar and perhaps beyond. The deal announced Friday extends O’ward’s contract through the 2025 season, and includes a pay raise and potential opportunit­ies for the 23-year-old with Mclaren’s Formula One team.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Fivestar

3 prospect Elijah Fisher from Canada has signed with Texas Tech and decided to reclassify to the Class of 2022 so he can join the Big 12 program this summer. Red Raiders coach Mark Adams announced the signing Thursday. The 6-foot-7 Fisher, 18, averaged 28 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals per game in his junior season.

PRO BASEBALL: A week after
