COLLEGE BASEBALL: Cortland Lawson doubled in two runs in a four-run eighth inning, Blake Burke hit a three-run homer in a six-run ninth and top-seeded Tennessee turned back 12th-seeded Kentucky 12-2 Saturday night to advance to the SEC Tournament championsh­ip game in Hoover, Ala. The Volunteers (52-7) took a seven-game winning streak into Sunday’s matchup with Florida. The Wildcats (33-26), the lowest seed in the tournament, had won four eliminatio­n games before falling in the semifinals to the league champions.

COLLEGE BASEBALL:

Sophomore Timmy Manning and freshman Fisher Jameson combined to throw a six-hitter, Jud Fabian gave No. 7 seed Florida (39-21) the lead for good with a second-inning home run and the Gators advanced to the championsh­ip game of the SEC Tournament with a 9-0 romp over the No. 2-seeded Aggies (37-18).

Marcelo, 34, said after the team’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday that he will not continue playing for the club. Marcelo is leaving 16 years after he joined from Brazilian club Fluminense in 2006. Marcelo said he plans to play another couple of years before retiring, but gave no hints about where. He said coaching is not in his future plans.

HORSE RACING:

Lester Piggott, 4 a jockey who won the English Derby nine times, died Sunday in his sleep, in Switzerlan­d. He was 86. Piggott was champion jockey in England 11 times and rode his first winner at the age of 12 and his last a few weeks short of his 59th birthday.

Top seed Maryland (17-0) beat Princeton 13-8 in the NCAA tournament semifinals and will meet Cornell (13-4), a 17-10 winner over Rutgers, in today’s title game.
