1 PRO GOLF: Kalle Samooja finished with back-to-back birdies and shot a course-record 8-under 64 to win the European Open in Winsen, Germany, for his first title on the European tour. The Finn’s eight birdies in the final round left him 6-under 282 overall as he overturned a seven-shot deficit and secured a spot at the U.S. Open. Samooja finished two shots ahead of second-place Wil Besseling (71).

2 PRO BASKETBALL: Mike Fratello was named recipient of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievemen­t Award, presented by the National Basketball Coaches Associatio­n. Fratello has been involved in the NBA in some capacity — assistant coach, head coach or broadcaste­r — since the late 1970s. He spent parts of 17 seasons as a head coach in Atlanta (1983-1990), Cleveland and Memphis, winning 687 games, and won an Emmy as best on-camera sports analyst in New York in 2015.

3 MOTORSPORT­S: Spanish Motogp rider Aleix Espargaró missed out on a podium finish at the Catalonia Grand Prix won by Fabio Quartararo after thinking the race was over a lap before it ended. Espargaró was in second place when he crossed the line on the second-to-last lap, then lifted off the throttle and started to wave to fans. He realized his mistake a few turns later and went back to racing, finishing fifth.

4 OBITUARY: Veryl Switzer, a former Green Bay Packers halfback who traded a career in the NFL for service as a lieutenant in the Air Force, died Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. He was 89.

5 IDITAROD: An Iditarod sled dog was found safe after disappeari­ng from a checkpoint in the race three months ago and covering nearly 150 miles, the Iditarod Trail Committee said. Musher Sebastien Dos Santos Borges of France was picking Leon up and returning with him to France, the trail committee said.
