1 PRO BASKETBALL:
Charlotte Hornets forward Montrezl Harrell is facing a felony drug charge after authorities said they found vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop. Harrell, 28, was pulled over in Richmond, Ky., by a state trooper May 12 for driving behind a vehicle too closely, news outlets reported Monday, citing court records. The trooper said he smelled marijuana and, after a search, discovered 3 pounds of marijuana in vacuumsealed bags inside a backpack in the backseat. Harrell has been charged with trafficking less than 5 pounds of marijuana. If convicted on that count, he could face up to five years in prison.
2 BOXING:
Floyd Mayweather will fight in Japan again in another exhibition, this time in September against MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura. Mayweather retired undefeated from professional boxing almost five years ago. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday in the United States.
3 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:
Wisconsin’s basketball teams will play a doubleheader Nov. 11 at the home of the Milwaukee Brewers. The doubleheader at American Family Field will start with Wisconsin’s women’s team facing Kansas State. The men’s team will play Stanford.
4 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:
Kentucky women’s basketball assistant Gail Goestenkors has retired from on-court coaching but will remain on Kyra Elzy’s staff until her replacement is hired. The 2015 Hall of Fame inductee coached Duke to two NCAA title games and four Final Fours from 1992-2007 before leading Texas to five NCAA appearances and three 20-win seasons.
5 HOCKEY:
Canada won its sixth Under-18 women’s hockey world championship, beating the defending champion United States 3-2 on Monday night in Madison, Wisconsin.
