1 Amtrak-car collision kills three: An Amtrak passenger train crashed into a four-door sedan at a crossing without a train signal or guardrails in a rural area of the East Bay in Northern California on Sunday, killing three people and critically injuring two others including a child, a spokesman for the local fire department said.

2 Wagner to take Maddow TV slots: MSNBC said journalist/ commentato­r Alex Wagner will take over the bulk of Rachel Maddow’s prime-time slots, after the network’s biggest star significan­tly scaled back her TV time this spring. In mid-august, Wagner will begin hosting the 9 p.m. hour Tuesday through Friday. Rotating hosts have been holding down those time slots since May, when Maddow downsized her toprated show to Monday nights only.

3 Sudan-ethiopia feud worsens: Sudan is summoning Ethiopia’s ambassador after accusing its army of killing seven Sudanese soldiers and a civilian, an escalation in a simmering feud between the Horn of Africa’s most populous countries. The Foreign Ministry said Ethiopian forces abducted the people from Sudanese territory on June 22 before killing them in Ethiopia. Sudan will present a complaint to the United Nations Security Council and is recalling its ambassador to Ethiopia for consultati­ons, it said.

4 Ecuador impeachmen­t vote postponed: Ecuador’s congress postponed a vote on whether to impeach President Guillermo Lasso until today after he announced fuel price cuts. Lasso’s struggles come on the back of two weeks of violent protests over fuel prices and the cost of living.

5 Stand collapse kills 6: At least six people were killed and more than a hundred injured Sunday in Colombia when wooden spectator stands at a bullfighti­ng festival collapsed. The collapse took place in the city of El Espinal.
