1 PRO SOCCER: Major League Soccer hopes to pick a 30th team by the end of the year. MLS Commissioner Don Garber said San Diego and Las Vegas are the most likely candidates. He also mentioned Detroit; Phoenix; Sacramento, Calif.; and Tampa, Fla., as other possibilities. St. Louis, the league’s 29th team, opens play Saturday at Austin, Texas. Garber did not rule out expanding beyond 30 teams.
2 PRO FOOTBALL: The Tennessee Titans announced they released three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan after a failed physical and also released veteran wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock. Lewan tore his right ACL last September. He had been due $14.8 million in the final year of his contract.
3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Authorities in Las Vegas are investigating the death of a 20-year-old UNLV player from Chicago who was found unresponsive in bed in a studio apartment, officials said Tuesday. The Clark County coroner said a cause and manner of Rebels defensive lineman Ryan Keeler’s death were pending following his death on Monday. Medical examiner blood toxicology test results can take several weeks.
4 PRO BASEBALL: Free agent outfielder Ben Gamel agreed to a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. Gamel, who turns 31 in May, will be given a chance to compete for a spot on the major league roster. He hit .232 with nine home runs and 46 RBIS in 115 games with the Pirates in 2022.
5 PRO FOOTBALL: Aaron Curry is the new inside linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Wednesday. Curry spent the last four years working in various roles for the Seattle Seahawks, including assistant defensive line/defensive ends coach in 2022.
