Aston Villa beats Tottenham 2-1, moving two points back in the Premier League table

-

Aston Villa came from behind to win 2-1 and move two points off the Premier League lead. Ollie Watkins rolled a shot into the bottom corner in the 61st minute, scoring his seventh league goal of the season to complete a turnaround by Villa at Tottenham.

It was a third straight league loss for Tottenham, whose lengthy list of injuries includes midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. He made his first start after eight months out with an ACL injury but was forced off after a foul by Matty Cash. Villa climbed to fourth place, tied on points with Liverpool in third and two points behind leader Arsenal after 13 games. Tottenham is two points behind Villa in fifth.

Manchester United 3, (at) Everton 0: Man United needed something extraordinary to quieten an angry crowd and Alejandro Garnacho provided it with his third-minute strike. Leaping high in the air with his back to goal, the winger’s bicycle kick from 15 yards sent the ball into the top corner and briefly muted tens of thousands of protesting Everton fans, furious about a record 10-point standings deduction for financial mismanagement, issued by a disciplinary commission last week.
