Track and field athletes from Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Portugal will be tested more often ahead of the Paris Olympics because of substandard anti-doping programs at home, the sport’s investigators said Monday. Each country failed to heed warnings after the 2022 world championships to improve no-notice testing ahead of the 2023 edition, the Athletics Integrity Unit said. Non-elite athletes from the four countries can be eligible to compete in Paris only if they give at least three no-notice samples in training in the 10 months up to July 4.

PRO BASEBALL:

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will have an MRI of his right elbow after experiencing issues in spring training starts. The 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner has been durable, making at least 30 starts in each of the last six full regular seasons, but he has been throwing fewer pitches in his spring training starts this year than other rotation members.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL:

Kentucky fired coach Kyra Elzy after consecutive losing seasons that followed the Wildcats’ first SEC tournament championship since 1982. Kentucky fell 76-62 to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament on Thursday to conclude an 11-20 finish, including 4-12 in league play during the regular season.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL:

The brother of LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson was arrested and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct by the Greenville, S.C., Police Department for his role in a fight after his sister was shoved to the court by South Carolina forward Kamilla Cardoso during an SEC Tournament game. Trayron Milton, 24, jumped over the scorer’s table to reach the court. Police say Milton made his way to the court Sunday by pushing down an SEC employee and stepping on her shoulders. Milton briefly made contact with Cardoso before he was led away by police. Police said two other people jumped from the stands but were stopped by authorities before making it to the court. Online Greenville Police records show that Milton remained in jail on Monday.
