1 PRO BASEBALL:

The New York Yankees acquired right-hander JT Brubaker and $500,000 in international bonus pool allotment from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday for a player to be named. Brubaker, Pittsburgh’s opening-day starter in 2022, missed last season after Tommy John surgery on April 12. Brubaker agreed in January to a one-year deal for $2,275,000 and was put on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 19. Brubaker, 30, went 3-12 with a 4.69 ERA in 28 appearances with the Pirates in 2022. He set career highs with 28 starts, 144 innings and 147 strikeouts.

2 AUTO RACING:

Kyle Larson turned a fast lap at 120.332 mph on Saturday to win the pole position for tonight’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. Larson, the defending race winner, barely edged Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott for his first pole of the season. Elliott was slower by just 0.002 seconds. Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing qualified third and Alex Bowman, another Hendrick driver, was fourth.

3 PRO BASEBALL:

Boston third baseman Rafael Devers was scratched from the starting lineup because of left shoulder soreness on Friday night before the Red Sox’s 1-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Devers felt some soreness early in the day and, after batting practice, felt stiffness. Cora held out Devers to be cautious, and said Devers would be day-to-day. Devers led the Red Sox in hits (157), homers (33) and RBIs (100) last season.

4 PRO BASEBALL:

New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres left Friday night’s game against the Houston Astros after being hit on the right thumb with a 93.1 mph fastball. Torres was plunked by Tayler Scott with one out in the seventh inning. He fell to the ground and writhed in a pain for a couple of minutes before being checked by an athletic trainer and trotting to first base. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said X-rays were negative. Torres left the game because the thumb started to swell, Boone said.
