PRO FOOTBALL:

Standout pass rusher Josh Allen and the Jaguars reached agreement on a five-year, $150 million contract that includes $88 million guaranteed, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not officially been signed or announced. The deal makes Allen the third-highest-paid defensive player in the league in average salary behind San Francisco’s Nick Bosa and Kansas City’s Chris Jones. Allen, the seventh overall pick in the 2019 draft, set a single-season franchise record with 17½ sacks in the final year of his rookie contract and is 10 shy of the team’s career mark (55) held by Tony Brackens (1996-2003).

After dominating on hard courts, Jannik Sinner made a smooth transition to softer clay by beating Sebastian Korda 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco. Defending champ Andrey Rublev was eliminated after a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Alexei Popyrin. Sinner improved to 23-1 this year with three titles in 2024, including the Australian Open and the Miami Open. Sinner next faces Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round, where he will join two-time champions Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas routed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-1, 6-0 and next faces No. 5 Alexander Zverev. Djokovic takes on Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Popyrin next faces Alex de Minaur in an all-Australian contest. De Minaur rallied past Tallon Griekspoor 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

A University of Washington player was arrested and charged with raping two women in Seattle and court documents say he played in two College Football Playoff games for the school after at least one of the allegations was known to the university. Seattle police arrested Tylin “Tybo” Rogers and booked him into King County Jail, KING-TV reported. Rogers is suspended from all team activities until further notice.

New Jersey Devils All-Star forward Jack Hughes will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury that will require surgery.
