One dead, another injured in ATV accident on Fairfax Road
One man was killed and another is being treated for injuries following an ATV accident Monday evening in the 8000 block of Fairfax Road.
According to a Bakersfield Police Department news release, the men were riding the ATV northbound at about 9:34 p.m. when they were struck by a pickup truck heading north. The ATV wasn’t equipped with lighting, police said.
The two men were ejected from the ATV. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor to moderate injuries, police said.
The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Intoxication or speed don’t appear to be factors in the accident, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Bakersfield police officers found a man dead Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a vacant business in the 2700 block of O Street.
Officers were making a welfare check on an unresponsive subject at about 3:14 p.m. and found the man dead, according to a BPD news release. The death doesn’t appear to be suspicious and detectives have taken over the case, police said.

The Bakersfield Police Department is requesting community assistance identifying and locating two women wanted for a June 4 robbery at Dollar General, located at 401 Union Ave.
The women entered the business and attempted to steal $400 worth of merchandise, police said in a news release. The women were confronted by employees and the one of the women spit at and physically assaulted them, police said. Both women then fled on foot.
The BPD described the suspects as:
■ A Black woman in her late 20s, with a medium build and black hair. She was wearing a white-striped romper.
■ A Black woman in her late 20s, with a heavy build and short black hair. She was wearing a blue T-shirt and black shorts.

The Bakersfield Police Department is requesting community assistance identifying a man in a recent package theft in southwest Bakersfield
The incident occurred June 1 in the 3500 block of Collingwood Drive.
According to a BPD news release, the man was observed on video surveillance removing packages left in front of the victim’s residence.
Police described the thief as a white man in his mid30s, heavyset with blond/ red hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball cap.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that an inmate who escaped while being taken to a local hospital has been found in rural Missouri.
Jason Ralls escaped from custody on June 7.
He was located in Webster County, Mo., on June 23, the Sheriff’s Office said. He’s currently awaiting a hearing to have him extradited back to Kern County.
