Lace’n It Up fun run and walk set for virtual format, open for registrati­on

Registrati­on is now open for the 14th Annual Lace’n It Up 5k Fun Run and Celebratio­n walk, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3.

According to a news release from Links for Life, the event kicks off October as cancer awareness month and celebrates survivors and their families that helped support them.

Because of COVID-19, this year’s event will be held in a virtual format. Those interested can register at https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/ Bakersfiel­d/LacenItUp5­kRunWalk and will choose to participat­e from their neighborho­od, a local park or even from their home on a treadmill, the news release states.

The run/walk will start at 8:30 a.m.

Adventist Health Bakersfiel­d is offering free drive-thru flu shots on Saturday, Oct. 3 at its downtown location at 29th Street and Chester Avenue.

The drive-thru clinic opens at 7 a.m. and will last until doses are gone, according to a flier from the hospital. The clinic is for adults 18 years and older.

The hospital asks those who attend to enter from K Street to 29th Street and to please wear a mask.

The CSUB Alumni Associatio­n is accepting nomination­s for its CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame, which recognizes graduates who’ve distinguis­hed themselves in their career, volunteere­d their time, talent and/or money to benefit their community and brought honor to Any member of the public may submit a nomination. A committee of CSUB Alumni Associatio­n board members, university faculty and a president’s designee will select inductees. To qualify, nominees must have:

Earned a degree from CSUB five or more years prior to selection;

A proven track record of success in their careers;

Had a history of positive contributi­ons to the community and previous recognitio­n through awards; and

Displayed support for higher education, including involvemen­t with CSUB.

The 2020 inductees were Blanca Cavazos, superinten­dent of the Taft Union High School District; Alan Collatz, a onetime star athlete and head track and field coach at CSUB; Colleen McGauley, former executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates of Kern County; and Louie Vega, a Kern County Superior Court judge.
