Looking to get a flu shot this weekend? There will be two opportunities to do so on Saturday.
Kaiser Permanente will offer free flu shots to the community in a drive-thru clinic this Saturday at CAIN AME Church.
The clinic is not just for Kaiser Permanente members but the entire public. Anyone above the age of 6 months old is eligible for a shot. Kaiser said they specifically chose a location that was underserved in Kern County.
“We chose to target the community around central/southeast Bakersfield because we know that the surrounding area is heavily populated by people of color who have historically lacked access to preventive medicine like flu vaccinations,” said Trellis Green, department administrator for Kaiser Permanente, in a news release.
There will be 300 doses available for the community, and none of them are high-dose vaccines. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CAIN AME Church, 630 California Ave. The community is asked to use the entrance off California Avenue and S Street.
Adventist Health Bakersfield is offering free drive-thru flu shots on Saturday at its downtown location at 29th Street and Chester Avenue.
The drive-thru clinic opens at 7 a.m. and will last until doses are gone, according to a flier from the hospital. The clinic is for adults 18 years and older.
The hospital asks those who attend to enter from K Street to 29th Street and to please wear a mask.
Free COVID-19 testing will be available at Bakersfield College’s Panorama campus this Friday.
The testing site will be located in the parking lot on the corner of Haley Street and University Avenue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged before the event at https://doineedacovid19test.com. Those who register will receive self-swab tests, which are less invasive. Limited walk-up testing will be available as well.
“While our campus continues to provide high quality education in an online format, we are proud to continue serving the community with a safe place to receive free COVID-19 testing,” said BC spokeswoman Norma Rojas-Mora, in a news release.
The free mobile testing event comes as part of a collaboration with the Kern County Public Health Services Department, the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Kern County Latino COVID-19 Task Force. The task force was formed with the aims of providing outreach, education and awareness on COVID-19 to the Latino community, which has been disproportionately impacted by the virus.
Applications are due at 5 p.m. Friday for any high school and college students hoping to participate in a local program providing insights into energy and agricultural careers.
Supported by Chevron Corp. and the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the program exposes students to local industry, potential scholarships and volunteer opportunities. Participating organizations include Bakersfield College, the Kern Energy Foundation, California Resources Corp. and Aera Energy LLC.
