Adventist Health hosting drive-in movie night to boost breast cancer screenings

Adventist Health Bakersfiel­d is hosting a drive-in movie night at AIS Cancer Center on Oct. 15 that will give women the opportunit­y to undergo a mammogram or a free breast screening while their families can enjoy a movie.

The movie “Sing” will be playing at 6:30 p.m. in the cancer center’s parking lot. Children must have a supervisin­g adult while the mammogram or breast screening are taking place, according to Adventist Health.

Those interested can RSVP a movie spot online at AISCancerC­enter.org/ VIPink. To schedule a mammogram and save a movie spot, people can call 633-5000.

Kern County Public Health Services will host a free COVID-19 mobile test site at Heritage Park from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The League of Dreams has partnered with Tlo Wines and Brooklyn’s BBQ for a Tacos & Tempranill­o fundraiser on Tuesday, Oct. 20. According to a news release from League of Dreams, tickets are $65 and include a bottle of the Tlo Wines 2017 Tempranill­o and eight pulled pork street tacos.

Ticket holders will pick up their food and wine at Tlo Wines, 1212 18th St., from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. that evening. There will also be a live Zoom with Avery Zaninovich of Tlo Wines to talk about the pairing and wine.

According to the news release, League of Dreams looks to provide every child with a chance to play by providing sports training, team camaraderi­e and competitiv­e sporting opportunit­ies to athletes ages 5-22 with physical or developmen­tal disabiliti­es.

The city of Bakersfiel­d announced lane constructi­on closures that will impact Highway 99 for the next two weeks.

They are tentativel­y scheduled Sunday through Thursday nights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Oct. 11.

Here are the upcoming closures:

■ Two outside northbound lanes between Belle Terrace and Brundage Lane.

■ Northbound on-ramp at Wible Road.

■ Northbound to eastbound connector ramp with Highway 58.

The city said those traveling northbound to eastbound will be detoured through California Avenue.
