BPD helps rescue piglet on the loose

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department assisted with rescuing a pig Wednesday morning at Adventist Health Bakersfiel­d located at Chester Avenue and 27th Street.

At about 7:35 a.m., BPD was dispatched regarding a piglet running in the parking lot and into traffic.

According to the department’s Twitter account, the pig “ran around, causing a traffic hazard.”

With the assistance of Premier Pool Service and a pool skimmer net, the piglet was safely rescued, BPD said.

“Piglet is doing well and out of traffic,” the department wrote.

The Kern County coroner’s office has identified the victim of a Tuesday morning officer-involved shooting on East Truxtun Avenue and Baker Street.

Jose Marcos Ramirez, 27, was shot by an officer with the Bakersfiel­d Police Department at 8:57 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital where he died at 9:37 a.m., according to the coroner’s report.

At about 8:45 a.m. officers went to a call regarding a man who had stabbed his mother multiple times, according to Sgt. Robert Pair, public informatio­n officer for the BPD. Witnesses followed the man and informed officers he was armed with a knife, Pair said.

The officers unsuccessf­ully tried to take the man into custody through verbal compliance the use of less-than-lethal munitions, which included “foam rounds,” Pair said.

The officer involved shooting took place, and a knife was recovered from the suspect, according to BPD.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department arrested a man Tuesday evening on suspicion of firearm and drug charges in the 800 block of Wible Road.

James Shiu, 32, was booked into Kern County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sales and other associated charges, BPD said in a news release.

At about 6:09 p.m. officers attempted to contact a probatione­r. Shiu fled and while running discarded a loaded and unregister­ed firearm, according to BPD.

He was taken into custody with no incident. A probation search revealed heroin, methamphet­amine and marijuana, BPD said.

Kern County Sheriff deputies detained a kidnapping and robbery suspect on Tuesday evening in Lost Hills.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area after a victim reported she had been kidnapped at gunpoint in the 2100 block of Badger Street. According to a KCSO news release, the victim said she was approached by a male suspect while getting into her car. The suspect forced her to drive for several minutes before stealing her money and fleeing on foot. The victim was uninjured during the incident, KCSO said.

At 5:30 p.m., deputies executed a search warrant for a house in the same area and contacted Ariel Pacheco, who discarded a replica firearm before being taken into custody, KCSO said.

The Sheriff’s Office said a search of the 25-yearold Pacheco’s residence produced additional evidence of the alleged crime. He was arrested and booked into the Central Receiving Facility on suspicion of kidnapping, extortion, robbery, assault with a firearm, false imprisonme­nt and criminal threats.

The Kern County coroner’s office has identified the victim of a fatal vehicle accident Monday morning that saw a pedestrian hit on Highway 58 by a semi-truck.

Layloni Ariel Ashely Rue, 23, was the victim, the coroner said, hit when crossing traffic lanes on Highway 58 east of Cottonwood Road at 8 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol is investigat­ing this incident.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Wasco on Monday evening while investigat­ing a shooting in the 1000 block of Broadway Street.

Anthony Rocha was arrested and booked into the Central Receiving Facility on suspicion of unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale along with additional law violations, KCSO said in a news release.

At about 8:30 p.m. deputies responded to the area after hearing gunfire. They conducted a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle, Rocha, was detained.

During a search of his vehicle, deputies located a loaded firearm and illegal narcotics, KCSO said.
