Police investigate possible homicide in northwest Bakersfield
Bakersfield Police are investigating a possible homicide at a residence in northwest Bakersfield.
Officers were called at about 4:51 a.m. Sunday to the 7700 block of Vaquero Avenue regarding a call to assist the fire department with an unknown situation, BPD said in a news release.
Officers learned the occupants of the residence might need medical aid, but nobody answered the door.
Officers forcibly entered to check the welfare of the occupants and found a dead woman who appeared to be a homicide victim, BPD reported.
A man was detained and later taken to a hospital for injuries he sustained before contact with officers, BPD said in its news release.
Police said the investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 327-7111.
The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help finding a missing woman considered at risk due to
a medical condition.
Ana Luisa Moreno was last seen at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Bakersfield, police said.
Moreno is described as a 38-year-old Hispanic woman, 5’5”, 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing olive green pants, a gray sweatshirt, yellow socks and a neck brace.

Motorists traveling along Highway 99 through McFarland on Saturday saw a large haystack on fire.
The Kern County Fire Department received a report around 3 p.m. of a barn on fire near the north end of McFarland. Firefighters found a large stack of hay under a pole barn was engulfed in fire, the department said on its Facebook page. Other crews worked to protect several tractors.
The cause of the fire, which completely burned the haystack, is under investigation, firefighters reported.
