August 8, 1930 - December 5, 2020

-

The time has come to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary J. Salcido. Mary passed peacefully on December 5, 2020 at the home of her granddaughter, Jennifer Castanon.

Mary was born on August 8, 1930 to Jesus and Louisa Jimenez in Bakersfield, California. She attended local schools and developed a passion for sports, especially baseball. Upon graduating from BHS, she entered the workforce and found employment quickly. It wasn't too long before she met the man that would become her mate for life. She and David were married and soon were blessed with a son. Mary managed her household brilliantly, while providing loving care for their son. Years later she found employment at Dr. Osell's office, which blossomed into a career.

In her spare time, Mary would head over to the Jimenez Cafe to lend a helping hand, when needed. For fun and relaxation, Mary and David would socialize with friends at the American Legion Post 26, or spend time with their fellow worshipers at St. Francis Church, where Mary sang in the choir. Throughout her life, Mary was driven by a desire to be of service to others, whether it was a family member or a friend, Mary was ready and willing to help. She played a major role in helping her mother as she grew older, and cared for her husband David, after he suffered a stroke. Yet, through it all, she still found the time and energy to spend with her granddaughter, and later, with her great grandchildren, Rio, Elena, and her "Bella". Mary, you will be missed by all of us who knew you, and loved you. May you find Peace and Rest in God's presence.

She is survived by her son David, granddaughter Jennifer Castanon and husband Cristian, great grandchildren Rio, Elena, and Bella. Her brother Rudy Jimenez and wife Mary, a sister Yolanda Ortega, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jesus and Roberto, her sisters Josephine Mendez, Petra Bidabe, Blanca Rodriguez, Mary Lou Haines, Angela Jimenez, and Adella Enriquez.
