Coroner IDs 3 victims in fatal New Year’s Eve crash

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the three 20-year-old victims in a New Year’s Eve car crash on Brimhall Road.

Timothy Michael Wilson, Devin Lee Atha and Andrew Nicholas Ortiz were killed at 11:15 p.m. when the car they were traveling in crashed into a tree in the 11700 block of Brimhall Road, between Jewetta Avenue and Old Farm Road, the coroner’s office reported.

According to Bakersfiel­d Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Pair, the driver was 20-year-old Adam Teasdale. He was arrested and booked into Kern County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaught­er and DUI causing injury or death.

A BPD report from that night stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck a tree in the center divider of the road. The three victims were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A woman who was also a passenger in the car had minor injuries.

Police arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting that left two dead over the weekend at a hotel in south Bakersfiel­d.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department said in a news release that Mario Velasquez, 25, has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder. The investigat­ion is ongoing, BPD said.

The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. Saturday at the Vagabond Inn located at 6501 Colony St. According to BPD, officers responded to the scene and located two men in a hotel room suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the victims were not immediatel­y available.

The Kern County coroner’s office has identified a Bakersfiel­d man who was shot on New Year’s Eve.

In a report, the coroner said Emmanuel Alfaro Arechiga, 18, was shot by another person at 9:28 a.m. Thursday at the 2800 block of Morin Court. The report says Arechiga drove to the 2500 block of Echo Avenue where he was pronounced dead. The report lists Arechiga’s time of death at 9:42 a.m.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the victim in a shooting that occurred Saturday in the 2000 block of Oregon Street.

Ruben Jose Vega, 34, was shot at 3:38 p.m. and was later declared dead at Kern Medical.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigat­ing the incident as a homicide.

The agency asks that anyone with informatio­n call 861-3110 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department is seeking assistance identifyin­g two suspects in a burglary that occurred Nov. 22 at a business in the 7400 block of District Boulevard.

Police described the suspects as:

• White man between 20 and 30 years old with a medium build and brown hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with “SOCAL” in white lettering across the front, dark colored pants, white and black tennis shoes, and a burgundy face mask.

• White woman between 20 and 30 years old with a thin build. She was wearing a gray zip hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, red knit cap, black face mask and red Vans-style shoes.

Police also said there was a light-colored pit bull mix dog in the suspect vehicle. The vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, was recovered, BPD said.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifyin­g a suspect allegedly linked to multiple business burglaries in the 1200 block of Chester Avenue.

BPD described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his early 20’s, about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with an average build,

short black hair and neck tattoos. He was wearing a navy blue jacket, blue pants and black Nike brand shoes.

Office has identified a Bakersfiel­d resident who died in a motorcycle accident on Dec. 27.

In a report, KCSO said Raymond Alex Rivera, 33, was the driver of a motorcycle that hit a guardrail at Roberts Lane and Manor Street at 3:25 a.m.

He died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has identified a Taft woman who died in a motorcycle accident on Dec. 26.

According to a KCSO report, Courtney Curtis, 27, was the passenger of a motorcycle that lost control and crashed at 11:48 p.m. at the 1100 block of 6th Street in Taft.

The report lists her time of death as 12:03 a.m. Dec. 27 and says she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kern County coroner’s office has identified a Delano man who was shot and killed on 12th Avenue on Christmas Eve.

The coroner said Manuel Acosta, 37, was shot by another person at 6:13 p.m. Dec. 24, at the 600 block of 12th Avenue in Delano. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s report.

The Kern County coroner’s office has identified a McFarland man who was shot on Highway 99 on Wednesday.

A coroner’s report says Efren Alcala Lopez, 27, was shot by another person at 6:45 p.m.,Wednesday, at southbound Highway 99, south of Woollomes Avenue in Delano. The report says Lopez was taken to Adventist Health Delano, where he died at 7:28 p.m.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened in July.

David Allen Roberson, 60, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, driving with a suspended license and an active Post Release Community Supervisio­n warrant, the Bakersfiel­d Police Department said in a news release.

The incident occurred at 5:15 a.m. July 7 in the 300 block of Oak Street. Police said a late 1990s to early 2000s GMC Sierra pick-up truck struck and killed a bicyclist. The truck fled the scene before officers arrived.
