DONALD EDWARD BOYD, SR

June 1, 1931 - December 19, 2020

Donald Edward Boyd, Sr., son of Lige and Etta Boyd went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, December 19, 2020 at the age of 89. Don was born in Oklahoma City on June 1, 1931. He married Peggy Lenita Lewis on March 23, 1951 and after the birth of their second child the family moved out to California and has resided here in Bakersfield for the past 64 years. Don is preceded in death by his first daughter, Sandra Kay and the mother of his children Peggy Lenita Boyd; and is survived by his sister Joy McCrackin, four daughters and a son, Brinda Lenita, Linda Renee, Debra Dawn, Alcinda Raye and Donald Edward (Jr). Don was a grandfather to 13 and a great grandfather to 16.

He had a love for his family and lived life to the fullest. Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time out on the golf course weekly with his special group of friends and family. He will play through on the golf courses of heaven. Don was a hardworking man with a solid work ethic, very meticulous in everything from his attire to the way he performed any job. He ventured into several different interests, once being a salesman for a short time but he found his calling when he joined Southern Pacific Railroad which ended up being his long-lasting career as an engineer inspector for 44 years. We can add to his list of ventures the pool business he started on the side, with the help of some family members that ran it in his absence. He continued to work it long after he retired from the railroad.

He will be greatly missed not only by his family but all those who met him on the golf course weekly and let’s not forget all the servers at JM’s, Red Lion and Spencer’s, the restaurants that he frequented daily. They will tell you that he was a man of high standards that liked his coffee HOT and food perfect.

A Celebration of Life to be held at graveside Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10:00am at Greenlawn at the North East Location, Bakersfield, California.
