Bicyclist collides with vehicle on Coffee Road, dies

A bicyclist collided with a vehicle on Coffee Road north of Brimhall Road Saturday night and died, Bakersfiel­d Police said.

Officers arrived at the scene at 6:44 p.m. and found the man down in the road, where he died. His identity has not been released.

BPD said the motorist cooperated with the investigat­ion and neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor related to the motorist.

Police ask that anyone with informatio­n call 327-7111.

Drivers were caught in a variety of offenses Saturday night during a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in the 1800 block of Oak Street.

Officers screened a total of 888 drivers between 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday.

One driver was detained for evaluation of sobriety. One driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle. Nine drivers were cited for driving while unlicensed. Five motorists were driving on suspended licenses, BPD reported in a news release Sunday.

Police ask that anyone who sees an impaired driver to call 911.

A man who was stabbed in his upper body Sunday morning was taken to a hospital and died, the Kern County Sheriff’s

Office said.

Deputies were sent to the 100 block of Harris Drive at about 6:30 a.m. for the reported stabbing. Homicide detectives are investigat­ing.

The victim’s name has not been released.
