BPD: Man arrested in connection to shooting death on E. 9th Street
A suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting death that occurred March 9 in the 1400 block of E. 9th Street, according to a news release from the Bakersfield Police Department.
BPD identified the suspect as 41-year-old Jerry Dawson of Bakersfield, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police said Dawson is a convicted felon and was found in possession of a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest.

A convicted felon was arrested Thursday night after crashing his vehicle into a cinder block wall and residence near the intersection of Chester Lane and A Street, according to a news release from the Bakersfield Police Department.
The crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. and the driver, 19-year-old Isaiah Hernandez, attempted to flee the scene on foot, police said.
Responding officers contacted Hernandez, a convicted felon, and found him to be in possession of a loaded firearm, the news release stated. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, hit and run, having no proof of insurance, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, being a felon in possession of a firearm and other associated charges, the news release stated.
Two other passengers in the vehicle were also contacted while attempting to flee the scene, police said. No one was injured in the crash.
The Bakersfield Police Department is requesting community assistance identifying a shoplifting suspect at the Old Navy at 9280 Rosedale Highway.
According to a news release from the department, the incident occurred March 6 when the suspect stole merchandise from the store and fled on foot.
The BPD described the suspect as a Hispanic man, standing about 5-foot-8 and weighing about 180 pounds with a short-faded haircut. He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and black shoes, police said.
