Barbara was born in Bakersfield to Louisa and Nolberto Ortiz. Growing up in Arvin, she attended Arvin High school and graduated in 1960. Barbara met and married the love of her life, Charles Valenzuela, in 1961. She worked for Bank of America for 10 years and then became the bookkeeper for St. Joseph's Church for 16 years. Barbara was truly a Godly woman, devout Catholic and member of St Joseph's church

Barbara and Charles shared 60 years of togetherness, raising two daughters, Donna Maston and Nancy Valenzuela. She loved spending time with their children and grandchildren. In addition, they were both avid golfers, belonging to Rio Bravo for many years, enjoyed gardening and spending time in their beautiful home in Canyon Country Estates near their golf course. Barbara was a very active member of the women's club until beset with physical problems. She was always willing to do more than her share of work at the club. Her absence leaves a hole in everyone's heart. You would never meet a more warm, kind and loving person than Barbara - always there for you in any situation.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles, her two daughters, Donna and Nancy, grandson Christopher Maston (Angie), great grandchildren, Aaron and Amelia Maston, siblings Robert Ortiz, Frances Teutimez (Donald). She was preceded in death by her parents, Louisa and Nolberto Ortiz, and siblings Joe Ortiz, Salvador Ortiz, Esteban Ortiz, Pasquel Ortiz, Louis Ortiz, and Stephanie Sanchez.

Barbara will be rewarded with her angel wings and the rest of us will hold her memory deep in our hearts, for she was truly a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Visitation is scheduled Monday, May 24th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary at 5:00 p.m. at Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
