FRED MAURICE CROSON

February 24, 1932 – October 20, 2021

Fred Maurice Croson passed away October 20, 2021 in Sherman Oaks, CA, after several years of health issues. Fred was born in Bakersfield, CA, February 24, 1932 to Maurice E. and Ruth (Lounsbury) Croson.

The family moved to Big Creek, CA when Fred was young and they lived there for several years while his dad worked for Southern California Edison. They

later moved to Long Beach, CA where his dad had an office with Edison, in Alhambra. Fred graduated from David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, before entering the US Air Force.

After discharge from the Air Force, he and wife, Mary, moved to Long Beach where Fred attended Long Beach City College. In 1957, the family moved to Bakersfield when he was offered a job with Transonic. Later, Fred became a member of the Kern County Fire Dept. He took classes at Bakersfield College and was one of the first firemen to receive an AA in Fire Science. After 16 years and a heart attack, he retired as a Fire Captain. Later, Fred went to real estate school and established Croson Appraisal Service, from which he retired.

Fred was involved in Kern County Fire Dept. Retirees, Footprinters and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He loved golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his brother, Richard. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Suzan and Jim Wilson; son and daughterin-law Ed and Michele Croson; grandchildren Morey, Kelsey and Jenna; brother Tom (Shirlee); sister Andrea (Steve); sister-in-law Jan; cousin John, who was like a brother; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Service will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 10:45 am, at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin. (Please arrive by 10:30.)

In lieu of flowers, Fred requested donations be made to the Kern County Firefighters Survivors Trust, 7900 Downing Ave., Suite D, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
